lines in photospheric granulation

چکیده
The possibility of significant systematic errors due to the use of 1D homogeneous atmospheres in lithium-abundance determinations of cool stars motivates a study of non-localthermodynamic-equilibrium (nlte) effects on Li I line formation in a 3D solar-granulation simulation snapshot. The nlte effect on the equivalent width of the 671nm resonance line is small in 1D models or in integrated light from the granulation model. The line-strength variations over the granulation pattern are however markedly different in nlte compared to lte – observations of this may provide diagnostics to nlte effects. The effects of horizontal photon exchange found in the granulation model are moderate and due entirely to bound-bound processes, ultraviolet overionization is unimportant. Line formation in convective stellar atmospheres I.Granulation corrections for solar photospheric abundances
In an effort to estimate the largely unknown effects of photospheric temperature fluctuations on spectroscopic abundance determinations, we have studied the problem of LTE line formation in the inhomogeneous solar photosphere based on detailed 2-dimensional radiation hydrodynamics simulations of the convective surface layers of the Sun. By means of a strictly differential 1D/2D comparison of th...
متن کاملLine formation in solar granulation: V. Missing UV-opacity and the photospheric Be abundance
The possibility of unaccounted for opacity sources in the UV for late-type stars has often been invoked to explain discrepancies between predicted and observed flux distributions and spectral line strengths. Such missing UV-opacity could among other things have a significant impact on abundance determination for elements whose only relevant spectral features are accessible in this wavelength re...
متن کاملLine formation in solar granulation IV . [ O I ] , O I and OH lines and the photospheric O abundance
The solar photospheric oxygen abundance has been determined from [O I], O I, OH vibration-rotation and OH pure rotation lines by means of a realistic time-dependent, 3D, hydrodynamical model of the solar atmosphere. In the case of the O I lines, 3D non-LTE calculations have been performed, revealing significant departures from LTE as a result of photon losses in the lines. We derive a solar oxy...
متن کاملStellar Surface Convection, Line Asymmetries, and Wavelength Shifts 1. Solar Line Asymmetries and Shifts
Wavelength positions of photospheric absorption lines may be aaected by surface convection (stellar granulation). Asymmetries and wavelength shifts originate from correlated velocity and brightness patterns: rising (blueshifted) elements are hot (bright), and convective blueshifts result from a larger contribution of such blueshifted photons than of redshifted ones from the sinking and cooler (...
متن کاملEffects of NLTE and granulation on LiBeB abundance determinations
NLTE effects – the errors caused by assuming local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) – on LiBeB abundance determinations for cool stars are discussed. These NLTE effects are significant in many cases for B i and Li i lines. The Be ii 313 nm lines are not formed under LTE circumstances, but the NLTE effects on equivalent widths seem to be rather small. Reasons for doing LTE abundance analysis are ...
